Egypt’s dates market
- Egypt currently produces about 16.6% of the world’s dates, and 24.2% of the Arab countries production, totaling 1.4 million tons annually, according to a recent report by the Ministry of Agriculture.
- Egyptian dates have been exported to 42 countries, with Indonesia, Morocco, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Thailand being top importers. Also, new markets in Africa and Asia have been opened to receive Egyptian dates, according to Former Minister of Industry and Foreign Trade, Tarek Kabil.
- Egypt has started planting 2.5 million palm trees of new varieties to meet international demand, as part of the country’s strategy to develop the dates industry. Egypt has 15.5 million palm trees planted on an area of 86,000 feddans.
